So, what is this crazy new class called Zumba?

First of all, Zumba comes from the latin word "zumbear"-to invite people partying!

The short version of how Zumba was born.  Beto Perez, creator of Zumba, was a celebrity fitness trainer in his home of Columbia when he forgot his regular music one day.  So, he grabbed his traditional salsa and other latin beats music from his car and did that day's workout to that music instead.  The clients instantly loved it and the rest is history!

Zumba is a dance fitness class full of latin and international music and dance styles.  It is a program designed for EVERYONE to do.  IT IS EXERCISE IN DISGUISE!!!

Music rhythms and dance styles you find in class are Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Reggaeton (latin hiphop), Flamenco, Bellydance, Samba, Soca, Tango, HipHop, Rock & Roll, Quebradita (mexican), Bachata, Cha cha cha and more.

The steps used in class have been pulled from the traditional dances and "tweaked" to use in a fitness class environment.

Dance steps are kept repetitive within the songs so that people learn the move and can then put more effort and style or "flava" into their steps.

Zumba benefits include:

Increased self confidence (on and off the dance floor)

Increased fitness level

Weight loss

Improved coordination

Lower stress.

In my Zumba class you will find EVERY pace of music from a slow traditional Tango to a modern Hip Hop song!  Personally, I appreciate all styles of music and I hope you all do too.  That's the beauty of Zumba....to sample all the different "flavours"!!
